What I am Listing for My New Year's Resolutions

The start of a new year always feels like a fresh start and a great time to set some resolutions. Well, it’s still over a month but for 2024, I want to focus my goals on personal growth and taking steps to start my own business. Here are the main things making up my New Year’s resolutions list:

Start My Coaching Business

My top resolution is to take concrete action on my longtime dream of starting a life coaching business. For the first quarter of the year, I plan to establish my corp, create a website, set up scheduling/payment systems, design a coaching program curriculum, and begin marketing my services. I’ve toyed with the idea long enough – it’s time to fully commit and make it happen! What inspired me is what I read in this article about starting a business with no capital in 2024 by Ralf Dodler that got me inspired to start this list.

Read One Book Per Week

I’ve fallen into a reading slump over the past couple of years and I miss stimulating my mind with great books. So I’m setting a resolution to get back into the reading habit and read a minimum of one book per week in 2024. Mixing fiction, non-fiction, and self-improvement books, I’m excited to grow through everything I read.

Practice Daily Meditation

To continue growing spiritually and managing stress, I’d like to begin a consistent daily meditation practice. Starting with just 5-10 minutes a day, I plan to work meditation into my morning routine. Over time I hope to increase my sessions to 20 minutes+ as the habit solidifies.

Improve My SQL Skills

While I use SQL in my current job, there are still some gaps in my skills. To increase my business analysis abilities, I’ll spend 30 minutes each evening through online courses advancing my SQL knowledge. A mix of interactive tutorials and project work should take my queries to the next level.

Cook Dinner 5 Nights Per Week

After a couple of years of almost exclusively takeout dinners, it’s time I start prepping real meals routinely again. Cooking dinner 5 nights a week is a reasonable goal, while still allowing some nights “off” for going out or getting delivery. Meal prepping veggies/grains on Sundays should streamline this.

Launch Video Blog

I love creating video content but have always hesitated to put myself out there online. So launching a video blog is my stretch goal for the new year. I’m going to challenge myself to publish one creative video per week – whether motivational messages, business advice, or documenting my coaching business journey.

Lose 15 Pounds

I’ve noticed some unhealthy pandemic weight gain creeping up that I’d like to shed in 2024. Losing 1-2 pounds per week through clean eating and cardio workouts should safely get me to 15 pounds down by summertime. Time to get back to more mindful eating habits!

Budget Monthly

Getting my finances tightly budgeted is essential so I can responsibly grow my new business while still enjoying life. I will be blocking out time every last Sunday of the month going forward to analyze spending, adjust budget targets, and improve my financial organization system.

Call Family Weekly

In my busyness, I’ve fallen out of consistent touch with extended family lately. I want to nourish those relationships better, so I’m setting a reminder to call different family members at least once per week to catch up. Family is so important, so this discipline will be good for my soul.

Volunteer Locally

Finally, to grow in compassion and community, I’d like to commit to some regular volunteer work. Whether helping at the food bank, homeless shelter, animal rescue, or somewhere else beneficial, I’m aiming to contribute 3-5 hours each month volunteering right in my hometown area. I’m hopeful this resolution will foster gratitude and perspective.

Those represent some of my top personal growth and business resolutions for the new year! While it’s an ambitious list, I’m excited by the self-improvement possibilities. Here’s to an epic 2024! What resolutions make your list? Let me know in the comments!
